چکیده

We present evidence for a significant overdensity of red galaxies, as much as a factor of 14 over comparable field samples, in the field of the z = 1.47 radio galaxy B3 0003+387. The colors and luminosities of the brightest red galaxies are consistent with their being at z > 0.8. The radio galaxy and one of the red galaxies are separated by 5 and show some evidence of a possible interaction. However, the red galaxies do not show any strong clustering around the radio galaxy nor around any of the brighter red galaxies. The data suggest that we are looking at a wall or sheet of galaxies, possibly associated with the radio galaxy at z = 1.47. Spectroscopic redshifts of these red galaxies will be necessary to confirm this large-scale structure. Subject headings: galaxies: clusters: general — galaxies: distances and redshifts — large-scale structure of universe — infrared: galaxies This paper uses data obtained at the WIYN Observatory, a joint facility of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Indiana University, Yale University, and the National Optical Astronomy Observatories. Based in part on observations obtained at the W. M. Keck Observatory.

The spatial clustering of X-ray selected AGN in the XMM-COSMOS field

We study the spatial clustering of 538 X-ray selected AGN in the 2 deg2 XMM-COSMOS field that are spectroscopically identified with IAB < 23 and span the redshift range z = 0.2−3.0. The median redshift and X-ray luminosity of the sample are z = 0.98 and L0.5−10 = 6.3 × 1043 erg s−1, respectively. A strong clustering signal is detected at ∼18σ level, which is the most significant measurement obt...

Large-scale structures in the distribution of X-ray selected AGN

We are searching for large-scale structures in the distribution of AGN discovered by the ROSAT AllSky Survey. The RASS detected > 60000 X-ray objects, of which ≈ 35% are AGN at z < 0.5. The surface density in the extragalactic sky is ≈ 0.5 AGN/deg, which has not been reached until now by any other survey for this redshift range. We efficiently single out the AGN among all the RASS sources using...

We combine cosmological simulations with an AGN luminosity function constrained by optical surveys in order to create a realistic AGN distribution in which to model AGN outflows. The outflows are modeled with assumptions of spherical symmetry and energy conservation. We study the importance of the kinetic luminosity of AGN outflows in determining the fractional volume of the IGM filled with out...

Constraints from Galaxy-agn Clustering on the Correlation between Galaxy and Black Hole Mass at Redshift

We use the clustering of galaxies around distant active-galactic nuclei (AGN) to derive an estimate of the relationship between galaxy and black hole mass that obtained during the ancient quasar epoch, at redshifts 2 < ∼ z < ∼ 3, when giant black holes accreted much of their mass. Neither the mean relationship nor its scatter differs significantly from what is observed in the local universe, at...

The Evolution of Agn Host Galaxies: from Blue to Red and the Influence of Large-scale Structures

We present an analysis of 109 moderate-luminosity (41.9 ≤ log L0.5−8.0 keV ≤ 43.7) AGN in the Extended Chandra Deep Field-South survey, which is drawn from 5,549 galaxies from the COMBO-17 and GEMS surveys having 0.4 ≤ z ≤ 1.1. These obscured or optically-weak AGN facilitate the study of their host galaxies since the AGN provide an insubstantial amount of contamination to the galaxy light. We f...
